When decorating around the house for the holidays, people usually think about wrapping lights and ornaments around the tree or hanging a wreath on the front door. Adding high powered magnets into holiday designs gives homeowners a variety of choices to express the joy of the season.
Here are three holiday decorating projects to try out this year:
Create magnetic tree ornaments for the fridge
Hanging decorations does not have to be exclusive to trees. By combining magnets with miniature ornaments, homeowners can stick decorative pieces onto their fridge, according to Upcycle Education. The materials you'll need to create magnetic ornaments are a glue gun, flexible magnets and miniature ornaments.
1. Place hot glue on the back of the magnets.
2. Stick one magnet on to the back of the miniature ornaments and press them together.
3. Let the glue on the ornament dry.
It's that simple to transform your kitchen into a festive environment perfect for entertaining guests and family during the holidays.
Display holiday greetings cards
As Americans exchange more greeting cards during the holiday season than any other time of year, homeowners might want to consider gathering their cards and displaying them on their own do-it-yourself magnetic board from the Modest Homestead blog.
Crafters should gather a picture frame, sheet metal, fabric, scissors, hot glue gun and magnets before tackling the project.
1. Begin by cutting out the metal sheet that will be inserted into the frame. Utilize the cardboard backing that comes with the frame and use that to measure the right size for the magnetic board.
2. Hot glue the cardboard placeholder to the piece of sheet metal.
3. Take the fabric and measure it, cutting out a few more inches around the side in order to wrap the canvas around the frame.
4. The sheet metal side should be facing. Envelop the frame with fabric covering and glue the fabric to the edges on the back of the board, holding it in place.
5. Flip the board over to the side with the fabric covering.
6. Wait for the glue to dry completely.
7. Place glue on the frame's edges where the insert would be secured.
Once the magnetic board is completed, keeping greeting cards and thank you notes is easy. And you can use it for more than just decorating, including planning holiday gift wish lists.
Avoid scratching your door when hanging wreaths
Hanging a wreath on the front door of a house is a great way to welcome guests into your home. But having hooks that are meant to adhere to a surface might damage the door once you peel them off. This problem is solved by substituting these types of hooks with two powerful magnets in the shape of disks, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution DIY blog described.
Place one magnetic disk on the inside of a glass pane and the other one on the outside of the door to hang up the wreath. If you have a metal door, you can skip a step and place one magnet on the door for the wreath.
